COSMETIC DENTISTRY |
In this age of beauty consciousness, the vital role that a person's smile and teeth play in enhancing one's beauty is well known to all This is one of the newest branches of dentistry & is known as Cosmetic or Aesthetic Dentistry. No longer are protruding Canines (Fang like or Singappallu in Tamil) considered lucky as in ancient days. Similarly yellow or stained teeth are out. Many a prospective bride or groom has lost a good alliance because of their unaesthetic appearance of their teeth. Aesthetic Dentistry is a team work when a smile design is first prepared, aligned by an Orthodontist and later fine tuned by dentist specialised in Cosmetic Dentistry. This may include bleaching (Whitening) laminates - teeth stuck on to natural teeth to enhance appearance, cosmetic contouring & making sure that just the right amount of front teeth are visible when one smiles. |

An Implant is an artificial tooth root substitute made of a special material (Titanium) which when placed in bone will osteointegrate (fuse) and offer support for a Prosthesis (artificial tooth).
|
Who requires Implants : |
Anyone who has lost 1 or more teeth & are not medically compromised. |
| |
1.Need not remove & wash dentures everyday
2.As an alternative to bridge work - 2 good teeth need not be ground.
|
 |
Advantages of Implants: |
| |
| |
3.Does not interfere with speech, chewing efficiency increases by 70%
4.No chance of patient swallowing Dentures which may sometimes be life
threatening
5.Those with ill fitting lower complete dentures which refuses to stay in
place as the gums are totally flat.
6.Those with Juvenile Periodontosis or those who have lost their teeth at a very early age, the trauma of losing teeth is compounded by wearing dentures. |
How it is done : |
Generally it is done in 2 stages but can be done in 1 stage also. First the gums are opened & the implant placed under local anaesthesia. After 6 months the gums are again reopened after the body's bone has fused & holds on to the implant. Temporary crown/dentures can be worn during this time.
Our clinic was one of the first in Tamilnadu to introduce implants to patients right from the early nineties. Implants allow a person to eat, speak, smile with confidence and in fact reverses the aging process.

Quality Dental treatment is very economical in India. Many Europeans get their teeth fixed & holiday in India at the same time. A filling costing US$ 300 to US$ 400 costs hardly US$ 20 in India. A Root Canal costing US$ 3000 costs about US$ 70 to US$ 100 in India. Dentures costing US$ 1000 cost US$ 200 in India. A 3 unit Ceramic Bridge costing US$ 3000 costs hardly US$ 500 and the prohibitively expensive implants can be done for US$ 700 to US$ 1000. Many Multi Speciality Hospitals nearby for medical treatment at very reasonable cost. |
